Popcorn can be a healthy snack choice & it's one of my favorites. As long as you're not adding oils & butters, popcorn is low in calories, heart-smart, & surprisingly chock-full of healthy nutrients, not to mention it's a great source of fiber.
While microwavable, prepackaged popcorn is convenient, I recommend in investing in a hot air popper like the one pictured to the left. This is the one I own & it's super easy, convenience, & much more healthy!
You can flavor your popcorn without saturating it in oils, butter, & salts. Try spraying some nonstick cooking spray (olive oil or even butter flavor) then sprinkling Parmesan cheese, chili powder, or your favorite seasoning.
If you don't have a hot air popper & want to try this today, here's another option. I've not personally tried this but I've read it works well. Take a paper lunch bag & add 1/4 cup popcorn kernels. Fold the top of the bag 2-3 times & place it in the microwave for approximately 1-1/2 minutes, or until the popping slows down (1 pop every few seconds). Now flavor as mentioned above.
1 cup of hot air popcorn is about 31 calories.
