The new program, with a working title of “Oculus Lift,” will be formally launched at the Beachbody Coach Summit in Nashville later this year, but the Beachbody Blog has been cleared to give our readers a sneak peek.
For the first time ever, you will be able to increase you strength, speed, and stamina using just your mind as a training device. And Beachbody will be there to walk you through the process, with a new state-of-the-art, 8-week training program. There is no equipment required and the program even comes in an audio-only format, although a deluxe, Blu-ray set is also planned. Workouts include Psychometrics, Cranial Control Cardio (3C), and Max Mind Resistance.
Based on early footage, this program is best described as focus meditation. “The hardest part in the beginning, was to get participants to imagine what they were doing,” said the program’s creator. (For contractual reasons, we can’t mention him by name, except to say there’s another Tony wandering around BBHQ nowadays). “The key is to stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.”
How is this done? A study just released this past December in the Journal of Neurophysiology, tested the relationship between your brain and muscle strength development. The research team at Ohio University, lead by Brian C. Clark, placed 29 volunteers into a hand and wrist cast for four weeks, so subjects would not be able to move their muscle in the cast.
Half of the group was told to do nothing during the time period, while the other group performed imaginary muscle building exercises. When the casts were removed, researchers found the people who used mental imagery lost 50% less muscle. Harnessing that energy not just to avoid muscle atrophy but to actually increase gains is the secret behind “Oculus Lift.” We did this using a technique called “Progressive Neurological Overload.”
“The path to success is to take massive, determined action,” says the programs creator, “but that action can take place in your mind. You can tell people to imagine they are doing a sit-up, but it takes practice. Based on previous research and our own trial and error, we developed a simple way to get people to stay focused.”
The program can be used on its own or combined with other programs in the Beachbody On Demand arsenal to get the most out of your exercise routine. Mostly though, “Oculus Lift” was designed for busy people, living in a fast-paced world.
The next time you miss a workout, are stuck on a plane, or want to go out with your friends, now you can and you won’t have to feel guilty. All you have to do is imagine you are doing a push-up or mountain climbers. Space will no longer be an issue.
Stayed tuned for more launch and product information, including an example workout!
